Breaking: Federal Government secures the release of Zainab Aliyu
A new report has confirmed that Zainab Aliyu has been released.
According to the report, the Federal Government secured her release after she was arrested in Saudi Arabia for allegedly trafficking drugs.
Zainab’s release was made known by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
The perm sec stated that the federal government was able to establish Zainab’s innocence and that the other Nigerian involved in the case, Ibrahim Abubakar will also gain his freedom tomorrow.
Nigerians had taken to social media to call the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to the case. The president, in turn, ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, to see to the immediate release of Zainab.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora Affairs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, not long after this order was made, assured Nigerians of Zainab’s return alongside the 2 others in the same situation.
Zainab, a student of Maitama Sule University, Kano, was arrested after tramadol, was found in her bag. She has since claimed the drug was planted in her luggage by unknown people.
Zainab had reportedly travelled with her mother, Mrs. Maryam Aliyu, and sister, Hajara Aliyu when she was arrested at the airport.
