Bandits Attack Governor’s Convoy

Governor Ganduje A major tragedy was averted on Tuesday after a gang of bandits attacked a convoy attached to the governor of Kano State,  Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. However, the governor was not in the convoy as at the time of the siege as he was said to have travelled back to Kano in the same vehicle with  the Jigawa State governor,  Mohammadu Abubakar  Badaru. Sources close to Government House in Kano told newsmen that the gang ambushed the convoy along Shema town n Katsina State on their way back to Kano from Zamfara State. Ganduje had earlier travelled to Zamfara State to attend the formal defection of Governor Bello Matawale of Zamfara to the All Progressives Congress (APC). About three security men reportedly sustained minor  injuries,  an ambulance vehicle on the convoy was shot severally apart from the one other vehicle that had a tire burst, said the source. TikTok removed more than seven million accounts of users suspected of being under age 13 in the first three months of 2021, the popular social media operator said Wednesday in a transparency report. The Chinese-owned app which is wildly popular with young smartphone users, also said it took down nearly 62 million videos in the first quarter for violating community standards — including for “hateful” content, nudity, harassment or safety for minors. In its first disclosure on underage users, TikTok said it uses a variety of methods, including a safety moderation team, that monitors accounts where users are suspected of being untruthful about their age. He defected at a rally organised for the Zamfara governor in Gusau, the state capital, on Tuesday. Matawalle was presented with the APC flag by Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe and chairman of the APC caretaker committee. Bayelsa Court Sentences Kidnapper To Death By Firing Squad

An Ogbia High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has sentenced a member of kidnap gang, Charles Nikson, aged 39, to death by firing squad. Nikson was condemned for his involvement in the November 2020 thwarted abduction of Mrs. Vivian Okoye, wife of a popular businessman, and a medical doctor in the state. Vivian, spouse of Obinna Okoye, aka Blessed Obaino, owner of the A-Z Electronics shops in various parts of Yenagoa, and a medical doctor, Alex Ileimokumo, from Igbedi community of Southern Ijaw, were rescued after police engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle. Nikson, who was the driver of the kidnapping gang, was arraigned before the Ogbia High Court on two counts of conspiracy and kidnapping. He was arraigned at the court with another suspect, David Ekegima. However, Ekegima was discharged and acquitted. The British High Commission says Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was not arrested in the UK. The fugitive leader of the outlawed group was arrested on Sunday, according to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. Malami had said Kanu was arrested through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services. However, he neither gave details of the operation nor stated where Kanu was arrested. Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) had arrested Sowore in Lagos on August 3, 2019, and was later moved to Abuja. Nnamdi Kanu The federal high court in Abuja has granted an order for the Department of State Services (DSS) to remand Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), till July 26. The court reportedly granted the order on Tuesday morning when Kanu was re-arraigned on charges bordering on alleged treason. The presiding judge, Binta Nyako stated that he is to be remanded in DSS custody pending the continuation of his trial. Lehor Idagbo and Michael Etaba are both from Cross River State. Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila announced their defection on the floor of the green chamber on Tuesday. Their defection comes weeks after the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade defected from the PDP to the APC. Meanwhile, the senator representing Zamfara Central, Hassan Gusau, has resigned from the PDP. It is not yet clear whether he is defecting to the APC. Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba Minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has revealed that Katsina has the second highest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria. He revealed this on Monday in Katsina during the inauguration of the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA), a World Bank-assisted project. The minster stated that poor standards of education could affect the country’s ability to compete in the 21st century global economy. Zuma, Ex-South African President, Sent To Prison

A Constitutional Court in South Africa has sentenced former President Jacob Zuma to 15 months in prison for contempt of court. Zuma was found guilty by the country’s highest court after he defied its order to appear at a corruption inquiry centered on his tenure between 2009 and 2018. “The only appropriate sanction is a direct, unsuspended order of imprisonment” lasting 15 months, the constitutional court said in a judgment on Tuesday. Zuma had ignored an order to appear subsequently after one appearance at the inquiry into corruption, what has become known as “state capture.” While Raymond Zondo, South Africa’s deputy chief justice and the head of the inquiry, had sought to have him jailed for his defiance.
