Fuel Pump Residents of Imo State woke up on Tuesday to another round of fuel scarcity. Information Nigeria gathered that while many filling stations claimed they had no petrol, others were selling at exorbitant price of N250 a little. This is coming after three day strike embarked upon by independent marketers in the state over the demolition of the filling station of one of their members by the previous administration in the state. The strike had been called off on Friday last week after a public outcry over scarcity and outrageous price of petroleum products as a result of the strike. A litre of Premium Motor Spirit sold as high as N700 during the strike. It was gathered that the current scarcity of petrol in the state was a result of tanker drivers resolving not to convey petrol to Imo State as a way of protesting the suspension of the strike by the independent marketers. Aminu Masari Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari has issued an executive order banning the movement of cattle from the state to other parts of the country. The governor issued the executive order on Monday. Masari also ordered the total closure of the Jibia-Gurbin Baure road to motorists while the Kankara-Sheme road was closed to commercial vehicles. He also banned the sale of petrol in jerricans to motorists at filling stations. According to the governor, the measures are to contain the security challenges bedevilling the state. The enforcement is to come into effect on August 31. Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked a branch of Living Faith Church Worldwide at Osara community, along Lokoja-Okene road in Adavi Local Government Council of Kogi State. It was gathered that the kidnappers, who invaded the church premises when some of its members were rehearsing during the weekend, abducted at least three members. The assailants were said to have stormed the area, shooting sporadically to scare away interveners before whisking the victims to an unknown destination. The Chairman of Adavi Local Government Council, Joseph Omuya Salami, confirmed the development to newsmen on Monday evening through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Habeeb Jamiu. According to him, the chairman had visited the scene in company of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Osara Division since the incident occured. The Team Leader, Edo State COVID-19 Task Force, Dr Ebomwonyi Osagie, on Monday, disclosed that the state has recorded seven COVID-19 related deaths recently. Dr Ebomwoyi, who addressed journalists in Benin on the fight against the spread of the virus, said 228 new cases have been recorded in the state. “The deaths recorded so far are unvaccinated persons. If they had been vaccinated, they may have survived. “We have collected 1,1426 samples in this third wave out of which 228 are positive cases, 19 recoveries and seven deaths representing 15. 9 per cent.” He explained that out of the four treatment centres in the state – Stella Obasanjo Hospital, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Irrua Specialist Hospital, Auchi General Hospital, one (UBTH) is on strike. The programme aims to place 20,000 skilled young Nigerian graduates (under the age of 30) into jobs in private and public sector organizations around the country. The jobs will last for 12 months, will be fully-paid, and will seek to help prepare qualifying recent graduates for their future careers and work environments. This is according to presidential spokesperson, Tolu Ogunlesi. According to Mr Ogunlesi, the goals of the program include “improving employability, building useful career and leadership skills in young graduates, and connecting employers and potential employees.” The programme is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Two suspected kidnappers have been killed during a gun battle with the police in Itori, Kwekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement said that the suspected kidnappers were killed on Sunday when policemen in Ewekoro divisional headquarters received information at about 7:30 am, that some armed hoodlums with face masks were sighted hibernating in a bush at the back of ICT Polytechnic, Itori. “Many suspected kidnappers have been traced to the same forest before, the anti-robbery team of Ewekoro division was quickly dispatched to fish out the hoodlums,” the statement said. He said that on sighting the policemen, the gang opened fire on them and the policemen engaged them in a gun battle which lasted for about 40 minutes. The Department of State Services (DSS) has released eight of the 12 aides of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, in its custody. Lawyer to the detainees, Pelumi Olajengbesi, confirmed their release on Monday at a press conference in Abuja. The detained persons have been in the custody of the security agency 61 days after they were arrested by security operatives in early July. Those released on August 30 are Abdullateef Onaolapo, Tajudeen Irinloye, Diekola Ademola, Ayobami Donald, Uthman Adelabu, Olakunle Oluwapelumi, Raji Kazeem, and Taiwo Tajudeen. The DSS, however, refused to release the remaining four persons, contrary to an order of the court that granted bail to the entire 12 aides of the Yoruba Nation agitator in the custody of the agency. Buba Marwa Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier-General Buba Marwa , has condemned the move to legalise Cannabis Sativa in Nigeria. Sheh stated this while addressing a press conference on the recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on the growth of the economy.
