House of Assembly The Bayelsa State House of Assembly had its sitting abruptly caught short on Monday after more than one hundred angry youths stormed the complex shooting sporadically. According to reports, the youths started shooting when the Speaker was about to enter the chambers after a heated three hours closed-door meeting with members. It was also reported that the mace was removed by unidentified persons as everyone in the complex, including lawmakers and journalists fled to safety. This development follows a build-up to the sitting where the Speaker was expected to resign or face impeachment in a situation where he fails to resign. The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET) has hailed National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Director-General, Engineer Mustapha Maihaja, for ensuring transparency and accountability at the highest level. The Centre gave this commendation at a press conference on Monday in Abuja on the “strengthening of procurement practice and processes in the interest of improving the wellbeing of Nigeria”. In a statement signed by Executive Secretary, Isaac Ikpa, the CESJET described the NEMA DG as a man of integrity who is running “government agency to meet global benchmarks”. The Centre revealed that it followed the activities of NEMA in the last five years and no trace of corruption or mismanagement of funds was levelled against the DG. The Buhari Legacy Centre (BLC) has accused the lawmaker representing Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok Federal Constituency, Ahmadu Jaha, of massively profiting from terror activities in the North-East. The pro-Buhari Centre made this known in a press conference on Monday in Abuja to address what it described as the “representation of Boko Haram in the Federal House of Representatives”. Mr Jaha had alleged that the radical Islamic sect are currently occupying eight out of the 10 local government areas in Borno State. The lawmaker even lamented on the floor of the House of Reps that the war against Boko Haram has not been transparent. The publisher of SaharaReporters was brought before the court by the Department of State Services(DSS). A Federal High Court in Abuja had penultimate week ordered the release of Sowore . The ruling judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, who gave the order, urged the DSS to release Sowore to his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who must produce the accused person whenever the court wants him to appear over charges brought against him.
