It was a near-death experience for a 3-year-old Chinese boy who fell from a six-storey building after being left all alone in the house. According to China’s Daily, the grandmother of the toddler had gone out to buy groceries for him after noticing the boy had slept. The boy was said to have woken up from sleep and launched into a frantic search for his grandma who doubles as his guardian. A man identified as Idam Jeremiah has been nabbed while hiding inside the ceiling of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB ) in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, with the motive of robbing the bank after the closing of work. As narrated by the eye witness: “When he entered the bank he pretended as if he wanted to use the toilet. According to reports, Mayowa took his own life by ingesting a poisonous chemical, sniper, at his residence at the Eyita area, Ikorodu, in Lagos. The girlfriend, it was gathered, was to have been with the deceased when he died. He was quickly rushed to a hospital by his neighbours after the girlfriend raised an alarm but he was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital. Mayowa’s case is just one out of many suicide cases Nigeria has witnessed in the last one year. The growing trend is becoming more disturbing, and it calls for serious concern.
