  The chief of army staff, Tukur Burutai has ordered a thorough investigation into a militia camp training in Rivers state. This comes shortly after the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, accused the army of disrupting the training of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency Training programme. According to the governor, in a statement on Thursday, the House of Assembly passed a law approving the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency. The governor noted further that, the Nigerian Army’s action is aimed at instigating insecurity in the State. Wike, also mentioned that Zamfara and Kogi States have vigilante groups, which were commissioned and the Chief of Army Staff did nothing. However, in a statement by the defense Headquarters on Friday, it stated clearly the intention of the army to investigate a discovered militia camp at NYSC Orientation Camp, Nonwa Gbam, Tai Local Government Area (LGA), Rivers State. Offa robbery suspects The five suspects involved in the Offa robbery incident in which 32 people were killed have pleaded not guilty. The suspects appeared before the Ilorin High Court to answer to the robbery in Offa, Kwara State on April 5, 2018. They pleaded not guilty to five counts of conspiracy, robbery, illegal possession of two AK- 47 firearms and culpable homicide. Their lawyer, Mr Mathias Abaribe, had asked that he be given a week to enable him meet with his clients and prepare for their defence, but the prosecutor raised objections to the request. The Presiding Judge, Justice Halimah Salma has, however, adjourned the case till January 7, 2019, for the commencement of definite trial. This development comes days after the Police confirmed the death of one of the principal suspects in the case, Michael Adikwu. The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Kamaldeen Ajibade, had told the court that the police informed him that Adikwu had died in custody. -NA

Speaking at the opening of bids for Insurers and Brokers for NNPC Oil and Non-Oil Assets and Liabilities for the year 2018/2019 in Abuja, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, said the value of the oil assets to be insured runs into billions of dollars while the non-oil assets are almost about a trillion naira. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has said that the Nigerian army isn’t interested in the fight against Boko Haram, rather in causing disruption in his state.
